rev. shirley raley-currie took full responsibility for her husband's legal troubles. she said i was not diligent, i let him down. she testified that for 24 of the past 26 years, she has been filling out her husband's annual financial disclosure statements to the state ethics committee. she took over managing the paperwork early in their marriage because he didn't pay attention to details. he is not organized. he is a big picture person. she said she considered filling out the forms a chore. since her husband filled out the first one, she used it as a model for subsequent ones. she told the jury that she never intended to hide anything, and her husband never asked her to. she stated she misinterpreted the questions. testimony also revealed that she was a consultant for marlow

furniture. she got paid $4,000 for helping the company with job fairs. according to his tax return, he got paid $11,750. the nature of the work was not disclosed. prosecutors asked if she knew whether her husband received money for introducing legislation that benefited the company or if she could explain unemployment compensation. she said no. when she first arrived in court, she said she was married a blissful 26 years after meeting at a bible study group. she said there before prostate cancer affected his memory. she said they would go places and he did not know how to get back. she said her husband play chess every day to strengthen his memory. she was asked about his honesty and integrity. prosecutors reminded the jury

that it was senator currie's responsibility, not his wife, to make sure those disclosure forms were filled out accurately and completely. the judge said they could take between now and monday to decide if he wants to testify in his own defense. the jury expects to get the case on wednesday. >> now that he has been convicted in the murder for hire death of a baltimore county gas station owner, the jury spent today deciding whether walter bishop could be eligible for the death penalty. >> jurors reached these findings today. walter bishop jr. was an adult at the time the murder was committed. he gave a voluntary videotaped statement, and that he killed william ray porter. >> i am heartbroken. i really am.

i love walter. that is all i have to say. >> friends tried to offer support the day after the jury convicted him of first id -- first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. the same jury has determined he is eligible for a death sentence. to see him get the death penalty. he is my nephew. i was just hoping a lot of people would see that. >> she was in the courtroom as the defense replay portions of his confession. >> i am going to go to jail, even if i tell the full truth of everything, i am still going to go to jail. it doesn't matter, i am going to jail anyway, for 15, 20, 25 years. >> the defense attorney said bishop only thought he was going to jail, and the confession was

not voluntary as required by merrill lot in death penalty cases. he argued he did not know the consequences. the jury found mischa guilty of being the triggerman and killing 49-year-old william ray porter. the gas station owner was shot three times in the head in march 2010. prosecutors accused porter's wife of setting up the murder for hire scheme. the defense argued that bishop was not told the confession and make him eligible for the death penalty. under the law, police do not have the obligation to tell the suspect of the maximum penalty. bishop's stepfather is hoping the jury will not give a death sentence. >> i am surprised he didn't. something had to push him to

arbutus. it was near the parking lot of a gas station. the victim was taken to st. agnes hospital but transferred to johns hopkins -- transferred to shock trauma. officers were called about 10:00 to another area on sandalwood road. the victim was taken to the hospital and there is no word on his condition tonight. >> more than a year after the death of a church caretaker, police made an arrest in his murder. 18-year-old james johnson is charged with the death of 70- year-old milton hill. in july 2010, he'll oppose the bottle was found in an alley -- found in anwas alley. the only thing missing at the time was the green scooter he used to get around. johnson is being held at central booking. >> a witness tells us exactly

what he saw after a teenager was a salted in 1500 block of leslie street. she stopped and asked for directions. that is when a conversion ban similar to the one in this picture pulled up to the curb. police say the driver offered to give the girl i ride. the witness says he heard a commotion and the door slam. >> clearly, it was a van. the doors on the van were open and it looked like there was a pillow or something in the van. three boys, one boy walked the girl right to the corner like he was walking her home. the other two were in the back laughing, walking slowly. they went down the alley way. >> police are asking for anyone within permission to call crimestoppers. >> howard county police are asking for your help in finding a missing registered sex offender. the 46-year-old is the only one

missing on the county's 911 list. authorities are -- they are required to register every six months. police are reminding parents to check the registry before taking their children trick-or-treater in this year. >> it will be a tough commute for anyone who uses route 1 over the conowingo dam tonight. it remains closed after a fiery crash that happened last night. a tanker hauling diesel fuel crashed and they are still having a tough time cleaning it up. lowell melser has more. >> it is kind of surreal standing here in the middle of route 1 during rush hour, but it is closed right now on both sides of the conowingo dam. i am on the northbound side and cecil county where the crash happened. you can see some activity going on behind me right now. workers continue to throw down and absorbent material which soaks up the diesel fuel, and then they can shovel it up and

put it into bins that they can take away. as far as the waters of the susquehanna, that have been monitoring it and they are not concerned, because they were able to set up booms to prevent a majority of the fuel from entering the water. they will continue monitoring it as the week goes on. x emergency officials of cecil county say it was just after 11:00 wednesday night when a 9,000 gallon tanker truck heading north down on route one somehow lost control after crossing the conowingo dam and then crash, causing its load of about seven to 500 gallons of diesel fuel to spill and then catch fire. >> you can see some of the marks on the bridge where he began to roll over. it scorched the guard rail and that started to rip open the vessel. >> thursday, the stretch of route one over the dam remained closed. private contractors and state highway crews plodded down the

cecil county side with sand, but the rain and wet roads hampered their task. the driver of the task -- the driver of the truck suffered bumps and bruises and a few minor burns. boom's prevent fuel from leaking into the susquehanna river. the fuel that did make it into the river will not have any effect on area water facilities because the diesel fuel floats. the water facilities take their water from pipes 6 to 8 feet below the surface. >> they are very sympathetic to the watershed above and the outflow below. it is something when you have that amount of product, it takes a lot of resources to begin to remediated. >> as far as the cause of the crash, emergency officials say it is still under investigation.

sources on the scene said the driver may have fallen asleep, but police would not confirm this information. officials would not release the driver's name, but they say he is from maryland and was making nightly deliveries at the time of the crash. the big question is, when will this stretch of route 1 reopen? i am told that the cleanup activity going on behind me should last through the next several hours, and then they will take another look at things. state highway officials are optimistic it will be open by tomorrow morning's rush hour. lowell melser, wbal-tv 11 news. >> it looks like a long night at the conowingo dam. a local grocery store chain is linked to salmonella outbreak. men's new turbo -- terp's basketball coach, later in

and on throughout the day. moving east for the delaware area, and in the baltimore region we see some light showers and sprinkles. the last line of showers coming down out of northern harford county now. it extends up to parts of cecil county as well. a little more wet weather to contend with before things clear out overnight and into tomorrow morning. 0.21 inches at the inner harbor, 0.14 on the almanac. the almanac shows up just about every time. 64 degrees at the airport, 67 for the high at the inner harbor. the normal high is 63. the record high was 82 in late october 1963. still in the mid-7's down around ocean city on the lower eastern shore, but only 36 at eagle and

-- at oakland. all the chilly air is sliding south and east and will get into our state overnight. the cold air is moving in our direction. there is potential for some frost in parts of carol and frederick counties. around baltimore, 43. the wind shifts to the north. it has already shifted northwest at the airport. a good indication the front has just slipped through the region and the chilly air to the west is coming in. over texas, oklahoma, and arkansas, the new area of low pressure is developing. tomorrow, cloudy skies in the afternoon and much chillier. tomorrow night, rain develops and we start with chilly rain. some of the snow out west tries to push east as the cold air arrives and the rain may change

over to wet snow, north and west of baltimore, saturday afternoon before the system moves off the coast and we get back into the sunshine to finish the weekend. it looks like the first substantial snowfall starting in amounts of west virginia. garrard and allegheny county to pickup some -- eric and allegheny county -- garret and alleghany counties could pick up some of it. western maryland has the best chance for weekend snow, but tomorrow should be decent, just a little chilly. then the snow sets in on saturday with a high of 46. rain mixed with snow before it ends on saturday on the upper eastern shore. highs in the port of's. all rain saturday at ocean city with temperatures in the upper 40's. hurricane rina has shown signs

of weakening as it reaches the yucatan peninsula. it is now down to a tropical storm, a few miles from cancun. it looks like it will move over that area as a weakening tropical storm over the weekend. this storm instead of moving north, goes back down into that correct -- back down into the caribbean. it could mean problems with flooding rains in that part of mexico for the next few days. 52 tomorrow, a dry day but chilly. rain developing late friday night into saturday morning. temperatures fall during the day saturday. sunday the storm will be gone, sunshine returns, 50 degrees and a chance for a sprinkle to the west on monday. the high monday, 54. >> from the susquehanna sports center, this is 11 sports. >> ravens will need better production from the same players who started monday night.
